The E3 visa is a relatively new visa category specifically for Australians to work temporarily in the US in a specialty occupation.

The requirements to obtain an E3 visa is that you must be degree qualified, an Australian citizen and a letter of offer from a US employer. The US Consulate also looks at experience in relation the requirements and if an Australian applicant has at least 12 years experience in their specialty occupation and no degree there is still an opportunity for them to obtain the E3 visa. The US government looks at 1 year of university education as equivalent to 3 years work experience.
